Belize, the former British colony called
British Honduras, is an independent country in Central America with an area of approximately 9,000 square miles. It has a shoreline on the Caribbean Sea between Mexico to the North and Guatamela to the South.

Belize became independent on September 21st, 1981, and since then, has functioned under parliamentary democracy.  Today, Belize is a member of the Commonwealth, the United Nations, OAS and the Association of Caribbean States.  The country’s legal system is founded upon English Common Law with English as the official language, while Spanish is also frequently spoken.

The Belize currency is pegged to the U.S. dollar.  The population of 370,000 Belizeans is dispersed across 200 villages, 9 municipalities and 6 districts. The major commercial centre is Belize City while the administrative capital is Belmopan.

Belize is a classic amongst the offshore tax havens. The government is committed to developing the offshore finance industry as a source national income. Few other jurisdictions offer the range of benefits and features that Belize does. If a simple and efficient offshore solution is what you need, Belize is hard to beat.

The International Business Companies Act, Chapter 270, Laws of Belize provides for the formation of international business companies which are limited liability corporate entities. IBC’s are not subject to taxation in Belize on their overseas profits.
